What is Medicare?
Medicare is a federal program available to Americans over age 65 and those younger than 65 with certain disabilities. Medicare is divided into different plans or "parts".
- Part A hospitalization insurance is free to most
- Part B physician's services require a monthly premium
- Part C is Medicare Advantage which is offered by private managed care companies and must include at minimum all the benefits of Pars A and B.
- Part D is optional prescription drug coverage
Medicare Advantage Plans
Medicare Advantage plans are all-in-one plans that often includes prescription drug coverage. Advantage plans often have a $0 monthly premium and give you an annual out of pocket limit.

Prescription Drug Plans
Original Medicare doesn't cover prescription drugs, but you can purchase stand a lone part D prescription plans. It is important to purchase this plan when you are first eligible, or you may be subject to a life time penalty.
Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans
Supplement plans help cover what original Medicare does not. Supplements can be very comprehensive and will help you pay for copayments, deductible, and max out of pockets.
